Malaga has been a thriving port under the influence of the Phoenicians, Romans and Muslims. The city of Malaga is located in a bay surrounded by mountain ranges counting according to the latest population census with 568.000 inhabitants.

In the old district, the heart of this colonial city, we find one of its most important monuments, the Cathedral and the birthplace of Pablo Picasso, where the painter spent his early years. Furthermore, the old Museum of Fine Arts has been renovated and transformed into the new museum dedicated to Pablo Picasso.

In addition, the city has a great architectural heritage whose principal monuments are located on Mount Gibralfaro and gardens of great extent such as the famous Malaga Park.

The historic centre of the city's has as main artery the "Alameda Principal", a promenade surrounded by several 200 year old Ficus trees, what was the first promenade of the bourgeois of the early 19th century and still enjoys a great popularity nowadays.

Malaga also has many beautiful beaches in the capital itself and along its coast called 'Costa del Sol' (Sun coast) where you can visit beautiful places and popular resorts like Torremolinos, Fuengirola, Marbella, Nerja or Benalmadena. This name is due to the sunny weather for which this coast attracts a large number of tourists throughout the year.
